Partners + Collaborators

The Center for the Management of Information (CMI) is a proud co-leader of the new Center of Excellence for Border Security and Immigration (BSI). This prestigious appointment by the Department of Homeland security puts CMI and the University of Arizona squarely on the forefront of America’s national security efforts.

With a uniquely qualified staff and expertise in departments across campus, BSI’s collaborative work ranges from cutting-edge identification optics to probing analysis of immigration policy, to balancing streamlined cross-border trade with the demands for heavy security. CMI is integral in these efforts, with its research in deception detection and security technology, which will ultimately enhance privacy, and drastically reduce the incidence of racial profiling.

Center for Identification Technology Research (CITeR)

CMI is also a member of the Center for Identification Technology Research (CITeR) -- a National Science Foundation (NSF) Industry/University Cooperative Research Center (I/UCRC). Its mission is to advance identification technology and it is strongly focused on the areas of biometric systems and credibility assessment. The Center’s portfolio of activities achieves this mission through interdisciplinary research into emerging enabling technologies, cross training of scientists and engineers, and facilitation of technology transfer to the private and government sectors through its affiliates.

CITeR is has two primary sites. West Virginia University is the Center’s founding and lead site focusing on biometrics and related identification technology and systems. The University of Arizona is the Center’s second site focusing on credibility assessment systems. Each CITeR University site maintains and develops interdisciplinary collaborative partnerships with other academic institutions to effectively respond to affiliate research needs.
